Venture In

venture in was a new home builder brand intended to make accessing home ownership easier. We developed a friendly, clear and contemporary identity through colour, space, light and iconography to target a younger demographic.

EstiaBilt

Kingsbridge Homes was launching a new premium brand for custom-built, architect-designed homes. The name of the new company would revolve around Hestia, the greek goddess of hearth and home. Our challenge at Strange Animals was to take their company’s vast experience and have the new brand feel like a trusted and high-end entity that was responsible for very beautiful homes.

Schools for the Future

A website for Schools for our Future, a national inquiry into Australia’s public school infrastructure needs. Run by Australian Education Union, we designed the brand to connect well with their other sub-brands / programs while giving it a unique feel.

Home Group

We redesigned Home Group’s website, expanding on their brand with new aesthetic features to provide a higher-quality feeling as well as streamline the overall user experience and journey.

ARTRAGE

Approaching ARTRAGE’s new visual identity, we at Strange Animals looked to keep what we felt was good and foundational (bold type, minimal colour palette, photo treatments) and either enhance it, or add something new and vibrant.

A core to challenge was to have ARTRAGE be more visually impactful in order to reflect its notable and high-impact work in the Westers Australian arts industry. The result was a high-vis yellow that jumps out at you, playful typography, paint splatters, dynamic image framing, and a greater connection to their logo (also a foundational piece) through a collection of graphic dot elements.

Kingsbridge Homes

Kingbridge’s website was in need of a refresh, enhanced user journey, and modernised feel. We took the best elements of their brand guide and found new stylistic approaches to ensure a distinctive aesthetic and an enhanced user experience.

Strange Animals

When I arrived at Strange Animals we worked to refresh the brand and logotype. The Strange Animals visual identity is based around animals, a sense of strangeness (as you’d expect) and a neon, techno-futurism mashed with jungle and environmental themes.

I produced many illustrations and designs since then for websites, social media, ads, decks and email communications. In place of full websites we focused on quick-conversion landing pages - one general one, and the others tied to services like Shopify and Nationbuilder.

Build Now

“Build Now Foundation creates life-changing transformations for children facing serious health challenges. From accessible bathrooms to therapy rooms, gardens, and play areas, we bring comfort, joy, and support to families in need.”

To help facilitate Build Now’s mission, we at Strange Animals developed a happy, affirming visual identity that would appeal to a community of people willing to lend a hand through volunteering or donation.

The identity includes a bright yellow as a distinctive core colour to create a strong brand presence, but then also allows for an element of play with a suite of supporting colours. We utilised a friendly script / modern sans serif typeface combination, wavy shapes, Build Now’s excellent photography library and warm, rounded iconography to add to the positive feeling of the brand.

Our website design explored these elements further through animation and a UI / UX approach that encourages users to get involved.

Active8: Sky Muster Campaign

Very economical set of landing pages for a product campaign. The challenge was putting a large amount of information into a compact experience while utilising provided brand graphics.

Barking Gecko Arts

Barking Gecko Theatre and Awesome Festival merged to create Barking Gecko Arts, and we produced the updated visual identity, incorporating elements of both brands with a contemporary execution.

The website needed to effectively have a different skin while the festival events were running (artwork changing annually) but maintain it’s more general structure and theming, so this was the central challenge for the team.

Black Swan State Theatre Company

Black Swan State Theatre Company updated their brand and required a refresh of their website. In addition to an enhanced user experience, including an updated calendar system, our challenge was to look for areas we could enhance visual interest and colour to support the minimal look and feel of the brand without overpowering it.

Tio Tito

A fun brand and product line, we were able to take some raw base elements from the branding and make them shine in a web experience, as well as developing some new brand aesthetics in the process.

Rooftop Movies

At Strange Animals we worked with the ARTRAGE team to evolve their established brand elements into a digital space, while enhancing their customer experience for bookings. This aligned with similar developments to their ARTRAGE website, and the challenge was a consistent approach to both websites.

In addition to the website design, I also created custom illustration, animated by the Strange Animals team.

The Imaginarium

Barking Gecko Arts wanted a unique experience for their Imaginarium website, and we provided that through a lively world of illustration and exploration. The brief of the website was specifically to emphasise discovery, rather than an obvious user journey. The result is the landing page of the website is a fully illustrated piece, and clicking elements takes the user to small scenes within.
